Many families wonder why it is so rare to find an au pair girl/boy from the EU.

It is caused due to the fact that the potential au pairs from the EU can earn much more money in their “normal jobs” than is the supposed minimum rate for their pocket money. And, being citizens of an EU country they can find without any problems other financially attractive engagements.

Another reason is that their income relations in their country of origin have in the meantime become better and therefore, from the financial point of view, the au pair job has lost some of its attractiveness.

It is our experience, that the sum of 500 EUR itself – offered to au pairs from the EU region by some host parents (e.g. in Switzerland) – can find but few applicants from the EU countries. (Too negative: offer a better sum coming from the substantial inquiry).

If you are interested in hiring a diligent au pair from the Czech Republic or from the Slovak Republic, we recommend you, what is in the meantime also normal, to offer her/him more than a minimal pocket money.

That is valid especially then when you:

- have more children to be taken care of;
- ask for good knowledge of the English language,
- look for an au-pair with a driving licence,
- live in a village and/or
- expect working time of more than 5 hours per day and/or
- need an extensive collaboration in your household.

Better pocket money increases your chance to find
- a suitable girl in the short time
or
- to get more girls for your personal choice, too.

Every au pair is pleased when she/he gets better pocket money and thanks to that you will be usually rewarded by their better output, which will again bring to you and to your children some sort of good satisfaction.
